This morning's subpar coffee (brewed by yours truly) was certainly better than no coffee at all, I tell myself. In fact, I am lucky to have access to coffee. And to a mug. And to a chair where I can sit and drink my coffee out of a mug. A mug that is promoting an academic conference that will now meet virtually due to the pandemic.
This is the first spring I can remember actually watching old oak trees grow their green leaves. At home everyday during this quarantine life, I find myself looking up at the trees. Within the last month, I have witnessed the budding of trees and blooming of new life branching out above us. As uncertain and unmoving as we may feel at this time, there are constant reminders in nature of beauty, life, renewal.
The sky is the sky. The trees are still the trees, turning green and beautiful in the face of a shutdown - reminding us of the unceasing growth and beauty of nature in the world. The green leaves and redbud trees bloom even in pandemic times. The world has not gone dark outside. Inside, we may feel it has. Yet outside, we are reminded it is not dark. This is not the end. We are still here. Still standing.
Beyond the pandemic coffee and the old oak trees' fresh, new leaves, I am thinking of you all today. I logged in to see so many messages from teachers and parents across the country asking for more. Do you know how many of you are out there wondering about what to do right now?
I received an email asking if I would be open to answering your questions about online teaching and learning. So why not? I created a Submit Your Questions Here page (see below for the link) where you can raise your virtual hand and submit your latest online teaching questions. It's anonymous. And I will try to answer as many questions as I can in an upcoming post.
Also, did you know you can subscribe to these posts? Several of you from across the country have already subscribed. If you are interested, scroll down this page and enter your email address where it says Subscribe Form. Then click the Subscribe button, and you will receive notifications when there's a new post.
Your encouragement and dedication to keeping your teacher heads up is inspiring. Never underestimate the power of teachers!
